Coaching just might be the answer

Coaching just might be the answer

I became a Neurodiversity Coach,
after raising 3 neurodivergent children, so that I could partner with you as you navigate the neurodivergence you live with.

I hope you will let me partner with you as you take on life’s challenges and discover the strengths of being neurodivergent.

Why Coaching…?

Because this practical approach may be just what you need to navigate your life
the way you want.

Because you deserve to have someone hold space for you and listen.

Because no one needs to go it alone.

Coaching is different than other modalities in that you are in charge of the conversation. I will listen and ask questions. It’s not my role to offer advice or direct the conversation. You have the wisdom you need to find your own way.

  • About me:

    Why I like coaching:

Connections bring me meaning, and I appreciate that coaching allows me to make connections with others.

I love being able to have one on one or small group conversations with people, especially about important stuff like work, school, or family. I also like helping people discover what they want and what steps they need to take to make that happen.

    My life:

I grew up in Fresno, California and came to Wisconsin in my late 20’s for work. Here, I met my husband and moved to Sun Prairie in 1999.

A couple of years later, we had twin sons and almost four years after that we had another son. They have all grown up and moved out. The twins are both firefighters and the youngest is in college.

    What I like to do:

I love to garden, swim, play with our dog, hang out with friends and family, and read, mostly mystery novels. My husband and I like going to plays, hiking, doing home improvement projects, watching a little tv, road trips, and drinking coffee on the deck.

  • After I finished my coach’s training with Coaching4TodaysLeaders,
I became certified with the International Coaching Federation, ACC level, in 2021.
Since then, I have been coaching a variety of people and began Neurodiversity Coaching in 2023.

I have been supplementing my personal experiences with neurodiversity with practical knowledge and education.
I also hold certificates in Group Coaching, DIR (autism), and Positive Intelligence.

  • Christine:
Lisa Nelson worked with me through several big transitions that were changing almost every aspect of my life: career change, parenting, scheduling, finances, the selling of my home and moving.
Lisa's thoughtful, stimulating and creative questions seemed to prompt answers within myself that resonated deeply.  She provided a beautiful safe space to explore options, ideas and feelings that led me to my own next steps.
I recommend coaching with Lisa to anyone going through a transition, as Lisa has a real gift and experience in supporting an individual's need for discernment, clarity and growth.

    Joanne:
Lisa brings skill, creative thinking, and compassion to her coaching. Through her presence, she creates space to explore openly the gifts and challenges of a situation or idea, without judgement.

    Judith:
I really appreciate Lisa’s ability to push my thinking and suggest some cues to take that thinking farther.

  • Coaches ask Questions

Coaches listen and ask questions, and you have to listen well to know what question might be helpful. Asking questions can help you get to the deeper issues in your life and help you experience the “ah ha” moments that can be so life changing.

Asking questions helps you find your own solutions to life’s challenges. How many times has someone said something powerfully helpful, but then we end up doing nothing with that learning? That’s because the experience is external. Finding your own answers is internal. It changes your perspective from the inside out.

It’s so much easier to integrate new revelations when you’ve discovered them for yourself. You have the wisdom you need, and you have the power to make the changes you are looking for in your life—whether those changes are in behavior or perspective. Coaches help by asking the questions that give you the space to look within.

Here are a few examples of coaching questions that can lead to that internal “ah ha” moment.

    +What would happen if…?
    +If x, y, or z were not an issue,
what would you like to do or see happen?
+What might get in the way?
+What are some smaller steps you could take?
+Who can help you with this?
+What is energizing you going forward?

These questions may not seem powerful but asked in the right time and place, they are powerful and effective. If you try coaching, you’ll find out just how powerful and effective. Contact me if you’d like to hear more.

 What is Neurodiversity…?

  • Some people’s brains are considered neurotypical and others neurodivergent. Much of the world is set up for neurotypical brains. But typical simply means ordinary.

Going through life with neurodivergence can feel like trying to push a square peg through a round hole, but the question is:
Why should all holes be round?

Neurodivergence, while very challenging, comes with many gifts, and our world needs people whose brains work differently than others. Now more than ever!

Who is Neurodiversity Coaching for?

  • Through neurodiversity coaching, I help people discover both their challenges and their strengths and develop strategies that work for them. I also help people map out their goals and chunk those goals down into smaller action steps. I then provide the support needed for success.

  • I also help parents, teachers, and other caregivers provide the support and guidance their children or students need.

This can include insight, knowledge, deep listening, strategizing and access to resources. The time is yours; so you set the agenda.

Key to all of this is empathy…for people with neurodivergence and really for all people, including oneself.

Positive Intelligence Coaching

  • Positive Intelligence Coaching or PQ, which complements neurodiversity coaching well.

PQ helps us understand the ways we sabotage ourselves and how to change that.

It also offers techniques for educing anxiety and strengthening our ability to make positive choices.

  • Start by going to positiveintelligence.com and taking the free saboteur assessment. They will need your email address in order to send you your results, but they will not use that information for any other purpose.

Then, contact me, and we can begin coaching either one on one or in a group. The course is 7 to 8 weeks long, and pricing varies on how you choose to be coached. Also, you will have access to the state of the art Positive Intelligence App even after having finished the course.

  •   “Lisa is an excellent coach, bringing her whole self and all of her wisdom, compassion, and insight to the PQ experience. I found the weekly video sessions helped me better understand myself and others. PQ encourages regular practice, and the practices were meditative and centering, which was helpful for me. I’m grateful for this ongoing support.

    Judy

“After strengthening my Positive Intelligence, I feel I’m once again in charge of my own brain and my responses to various situations. My spouse noticed I hardly complain anymore about a difficult acquaintance, and I replied, ‘I don't even know he's on the same planet anymore!’" --Lori

“Positive Intelligence has helped me understand how my saboteurs undermine me in my work and personal life. I like the structure of the daily focus and the reminders to practice. This has helped turn the PQ exercises into a habit, which helps me to act and think more positively than I have in the past.” --Robb
